Owen Watkins, Sax and Woodwind, Sydney Owen studied clarinet and bassoon at the Sydney Conservatorium and played with the Brandenburg Orchestra for 20 years. His interest in early music led him to further his studies in Holland and the USA where he learned instrument making. He worked at the Von Huene workshop in Boston, and later at the Morgan workshop in Victoria making recorders and baroque oboes. Currently he is building a boutique workshop to continue manufacturing early instruments.
Joanne Saunders, Recorder maker, repairs and re-voicing services, Melbourne After completing Oboe studies at the Victorian College of the Arts, Joanne, became the only apprentice to renowned Australian recorder maker, Fred Morgan. Joanne set up her own workshop in Daylesford, then worked in Europe and is now in Melbourne at the Abbotsford Convent. Joanne specialises in making Baroque recorders after J Steenbergen Amsterdam (18 th C) and a Ganassi model after the Morgan design. Joanne sees many different types and makes of wooden recorders over their playing life as part of her repair and re-voicing services, and she is happy to discuss individual problems and requirements with recorder players.
